Frequently Asked Questions

What is the eligibility for the Ph.D.?

A master's degree is the entry level. Beyond that, doctoral admission in India is governed by UGC regulations and by the awarding university's own rules — which typically set a minimum percentage at master's level, relaxations for reserved categories, and entry through NET/JRF or a university entrance test plus an interview. We are not going to print a cut-off or a test name here that we have not seen on this session's notification. Ask our admissions team for the current one in writing before you plan around it.

What does the Ph.D. cost?

₹4,05,000 for the whole three years, payable in instalments. That is the programme total rather than a per-year figure, which is how doctoral fees are normally quoted. Hostel, food and one-time charges are listed separately on the fee-structure page.

Which subjects can I research?

Two tracks: Physical Education and Sports Management. Within those, the scope is as wide as a supervisor can support — training science, sports pedagogy, physical literacy, sports analytics, sport policy, sports business and governance. Discuss your proposed area with us before applying, because supervisor availability in your specific field is the thing that actually decides whether a topic is workable.

How long does the Ph.D. take?

Three years is the programme length. In practice doctoral timelines depend on your research, your data collection and your supervisor's schedule, and submission often takes longer than the minimum. Treat three years as the floor rather than the expectation.

Can I do this Ph.D. part time while working?

That depends on the university’s regulations for the session you join, and part-time doctoral routes carry their own attendance and coursework conditions. Ask admissions directly rather than assuming — it is the single most common misunderstanding in doctoral applications.

Do I need a Ph.D. to teach in a college?

For a permanent assistant professor post in India the usual route is UGC NET, with a Ph.D. increasingly expected and in many cases required. A Ph.D. can also exempt you from NET under certain conditions. The rules change, so check the specific recruitment advertisement for the post you want rather than relying on any institution’s summary, including ours.

What comes before the Ph.D.?

A master's degree. If you are coming from a physical education background, the M.P.E.S. is the two-year route; from the business side it is the M.S.M. Both are taught on the same campus, so the doctorate is a continuation rather than a move.
