Career After BPES: Jobs, the Teaching Route and What to Study Next

A BPES opens three kinds of path: work in coaching, fitness and sport science straight away; a BPEd if you want to teach PE in a government school; or a master’s — the M.P.E.S. or M.P.Ed. — if you want to specialise, teach in a college or research.

Which one fits depends on what you want to be doing five years from now. The sections below set out each route plainly, including the one rule most students get wrong: government PE teacher posts usually need a BPEd as well as your BPES.

What to Study Next

B.P.Ed. — the NCTE teacher-training degree for government PE teacher posts; BPES graduates can apply

M.P.E.S. — a 2-year master’s in physical education and sports, for coaching, sport-science and academic careers

M.P.Ed. — the NCTE master’s in physical education, for teacher-education roles

M.S.M. or an MBA in sports management — if you want the business side of sport

Coaching certifications from national federations — to coach a specific sport at a higher level

UGC NET and a Ph.D. — for college teaching and research

Frequently Asked Questions

BPES ke baad kya kare — what should I do after BPES?

Decide on the goal first. To work now: coaching, fitness or sport-science roles. To teach in a government school: a B.P.Ed., plus TET or CTET where required. To specialise or teach in a college: an M.P.E.S. or M.P.Ed., then NET.

Can I get a government job after BPES?

Yes, for posts that ask for a bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognised university. For government PE teacher posts, plan on a B.P.Ed. as well — those posts are usually advertised for a B.P.Ed. from an NCTE-recognised institution.

Can I do a B.P.Ed. after BPES?

Yes. A bachelor’s degree in physical education meets the academic eligibility for a B.P.Ed.; each institution sets its own marks and sports-participation criteria.

Which master’s should I do after BPES: M.P.E.S. or M.P.Ed.?

The M.P.Ed. is the NCTE teacher-education master’s and suits teacher-education roles. The M.P.E.S. is a university master’s focused on training science and research, and suits coaching, sport-science and academic careers.

What is the salary after BPES?

It depends heavily on the role, city and employer. Our BPEd salary guide sets out the ranges for teachers, coaches and trainers, and the same ranges broadly apply to BPES graduates in those roles.
