Golf Careers in India: Coaching, Management and How to Qualify

Very few people are paid to play, but clubs, academies, driving ranges, resorts and tournaments all need coaches, managers and operations staff — and most of the growth is in junior coaching and club operations.
There are two ways in. Certification — through the National Golf Academy of India (NGAI) or the PGA of India — is the established route for teaching professionals. A degree or diploma is the newer route: from Academic Year 2027, Mind Power University, Bhimtal offers a three-year B.Sc. in Golf Performance and Coaching and a one-year Diploma in Golf Management.

Is golf a good career in India?
For a small number of people it is a real career, mostly in coaching and club operations rather than playing. The industry is growing, but it is concentrated in a handful of cities, so expect to move for work.
How do I become a golf coach in India?
The established route is certification through the National Golf Academy of India (NGAI), run by the Indian Golf Union, or the PGA of India. From 2027 there is also a university route: the three-year B.Sc. in Golf Performance and Coaching.
Is there a golf management course in India?
Yes — the one-year Diploma in Golf Management, awarded by Mind Power University, Bhimtal, covers club, academy and tournament operations. The fee is ₹1,00,000 a year.
Is there a golf degree in India?
From Academic Year 2027, the B.Sc. in Golf Performance and Coaching, awarded by Mind Power University, Bhimtal and run with Axiom, Netherlands. The fee is ₹2,50,000 a year. As far as we can establish, it is the first university golf degree in India.
What is the eligibility?
10+2 any stream, min 45%, for both the B.Sc. and the Diploma. Ask us about any golf-specific requirements for the B.Sc. before you apply.
What does a golf coach earn in India?
We have not found a reliable published figure, and pay varies widely with the club, the city and whether you run your own programme. Ask coaches at clubs near you; it is the best information available.
